While growing up in Georgetown one of my favorite things to do was to walk the docks lining the Sampit River. Shrimp trawlers and fishing boats tied up there, and cats roamed up and down hoping for a handout from the fishermen. A few blocks over was my neighborhood of historic homes, churches, and cemeteries - some predating the Revolutionary War. The streets, lined with majestic oak trees, added to the romance and mystery of what is now our Historic District. I want to share all of this with you through the eyes of someone who grew up amidst such beauty and history, never taking for granted the paradise that is Georgetown.
Meet me at Harvest Moon Ice Cream Shop, 801 Front St., for a 12-block walking tour of Georgetown’s beautiful Historic District. We’ll stroll along the Sampit River before entering the residential area where you’ll be able to see things close-up. ~ Debby Summey
