Meet local authors Tom & Christine Doran and Illustrator Nancy Van Buren at Waterfront Books, Saturday, October 10 from noon to 2 p.m. when they launch their book “Flash and Fancy an Otter Adventure on the Waccamaw River”
Flash and Fancy, two river otters one fast and clever the other sweet and charming meet in the Waccamaw River off Sandy Island. Fancy is caught in a net left by a thoughtless fisherman and can’t seem to find her way out. Flash speeds to her rescue and skillfully extracts her paw from the net. Fancy’s rescue and her friendship with Flash make a charming story. Along the way you’ll experience the glorious colors of Sandy Island, encounter the various animals and birds that inhabit the island, and learn the importance of protecting our coastal environment.
Christine and her husband, Tom recently settled in Georgetown’s historic district. Both are graduates of Arizona State University and are retired school teachers. They enjoy reading, walking, exploring and observing the local area’s natural beauty and wildlife.
In “Flash and Fancy” Tom and Christine have combined their desire to protect the waterways and beaches of South Carolina with their love of otters who have given them so much joy and delight.
